For Families

The San Francisco Symphony takes joy in inspiring the next generation of music lovers and warmly welcomes children to Davies Symphony Hall. We recommend that children be at least 8 years old to attend our regular orchestral programs and at least 5 years old to enjoy our family-friendly programs, including select film showings. Please note that we only allow children under 3 at our Music for Families, Deck the Hall, and Día de los Muertos programs.

Everyone entering Davies Symphony Hall, regardless of age, must have a ticket. Children under the age of 12 must be seated with an accompanying adult. No lap sitting is permitted anywhere in the auditorium. 

The Symphony offers a range of programming designed to appeal to our youngest listeners. We hope you’ll join us for the following programs:

MUSIC FOR FAMILIES: Share the joy of music with all your loved ones in captivating performances created with your entire family in mind. Recommended for ages 5–12 but children under 5 are welcome.

DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS: This event celebrates the ancient holiday of Day of the Dead and includes preconcert activities for families, including live catrinas and interactive altars, followed by a concert by the San Francisco Symphony. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

DECK THE HALL: Experience Davies Symphony Hall as a decked-out winter wonderland and treat your family to a concert of holiday favorites and sing-alongs with members of the San Francisco Symphony, guest artists, and beloved costumed characters. Recommended for ages 5 and up but children under 5 are welcome.

PETER AND THE WOLFProkofiev’s tale of a boy and his animal friends’ bravery is brought to life with a guest narrator. The San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra performs this classic musical fable, along with other seasonal and holiday favorites. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

LUNAR NEW YEAR: Our annual Lunar New Year event draws upon Asian traditions, past and present, in a celebration of music and community. Recommended for ages 5 and up.
