Learn more about year-round opportunities to get involved at the Symphony, whether by serving as an usher, assisting activations at community concerts, helping out in the office, or taking part in our volunteer societies.

VOLUNTEER COUNCIL
The Volunteer Council is a dedicated community of volunteers who give their time, passion, and skills to promote and support the San Francisco Symphony. Through their service, they help strengthen engagement across the broader Bay Area, building audiences among youth, families, and seniors, and support Symphony events, programs, and concerts.

VOLUNTEER CHORUS

The San Francisco Symphony Chorus is a distinguished ensemble of professional and volunteer singers who play a vital role in the Symphony’s performances and recordings. Founded in 1973 at the request of then-Music Director Seiji Ozawa, the Chorus has grown into one of the world’s premier symphonic choruses, performing with leading conductors and artists from around the globe. The ensemble is composed of approximately 162 singers, including 32 professional AGMA choristers and 130 volunteer non-AGMA members. New members are selected through a highly competitive annual audition process held each April and May.

The non-AGMA choristers volunteer anywhere from 90 to 230 hours a season in rehearsals, warm-up, and rehearsals. They are also fierce advocates for the financial well-being of the SF Symphony, including support fundraising for the San Francisco Symphony Chorus Endowment Fund and Friends of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus.

Over more than five decades, the Chorus has built an international reputation for artistic excellence. Recordings featuring the ensemble have earned eight Grammy Awards, including three for Best Choral Performance, and the Chorus has appeared on acclaimed recordings, television broadcasts, films, and major concert productions. Today, under the direction of Jenny Wong, the Chorus continues a legacy of extraordinary musicianship, with its volunteer members contributing countless hours of rehearsal and performance each year to help bring the San Francisco Symphony’s choral repertoire to life.

Our Volunteer Ushers are an integral part of our Front of House team, ensuring that each patron receives a warm welcome. They work alongside our Staff Ushers and House Managers to provide safe, seamless and enjoyable concert experiences for our patrons.
