Soprano

Carolyn Sampson has appeared in the US with the Boston Symphony, Detroit Symphony, the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, and at the Mostly Mozart Festival. As a recitalist, she appears regularly at Wigmore Hall, where she recorded a recital of lute songs with Matthew Wadsworth for the Wigmore Live label. She has given recitals at the Saintes and Aldeburgh festivals and at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. In October 2013 she made her Carnegie Hall recital debut in Weill Hall.

Ms. Sampson’s recording of Purcell songs for the BIS label was selected as Editor’s Choice by Gramophone magazine. Her many recordings for Hyperion with the King’s Consort include a CD of Mozart’s sacred music, which was selected as BBC Music magazine’s Record of the Month and was also the recipient of an ECHO award. She recorded a disc of Stravinsky’s Les Noces and Mass for Harmonia Mundi and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and Riccardo Chailly for the Decca label. Her opera recordings include a DVD of Purcell’s The Fairy Queen at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, and a disc of Lully’s Psyché at the Boston Early Music Festival, nominated for a Grammy in 2008. Her upcoming recordings include a CD of French Baroque arias with Ex Cathedra and Mozart’s Requiem with Bach Collegium Japan. 

Future plans include concerts with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, and Vienna Symphony. Recently, Ms. Sampson sang Bach songs and arias at the Wanamaker Theatre by the Globe in London in March 2014 as part of a series of concerts curated by Trevor Pinnock. In the 2014-15 season she will be artist-in-residence at Wigmore Hall. She made her San Francisco Symphony debut in 2005.
