Biography

Soprano Audrey Luna’s season 2013-14 engagements include her debut with Virginia Opera as Zerbinetta in Ariadne auf Naxos, a return to Pittsburgh Opera as the Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte and to the Metropolitan Opera as the Fiakermilli in Richard Strauss’s Arabella. In the 2012-13 season she returned to the Metropolitan Opera as Ariel in Adès’s The Tempest (also recorded andreleased as a Deutsche Grammophon DVD this summer), sang Zerbinetta in her debut with Fort Worth Opera, the Queen of the Night in The Magic Flute with Utah Opera, and appeared in Carmina burana with the National Philharmonic. She also sang La Santa Muerte in the workshop production of Sosa’s La Reina with American Lyric Theater.

In previous seasons, she has sung with the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Metropolitan Opera as the Queen of the Night. She also sang the role of Madame Mao in Adams’s Nixon in China with Lyric Opera of Kansas City, performed Amy Beach’s Grand Mass in E-flat majorand Debussy’s Martyrdom of Saint Sebastian with the National Philharmonic, and appeared as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s Green Umbrella concert series in Unsuk Chin’s Cantatrix Sopranica. She has appeared as Ariel in The Tempest with Orchestra Dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and with Festival Opéra de Québec.

Ms. Luna is the 2009 winner of the Loren L. Zachary Vocal Competition and received the top prize awarded in the 2009 Renata Tebaldi International Voice Competition. She has also been awarded second place in the 2012 Gerda Lissner Competition, second prize in the 2012 Licia Albanese-Puccini Vocal Competition, and first place in the Terzo Concorso Lirico Internazionale “Alfredo Giacomotti”, the Caruso International Voice Competition, and the Eleanor Lieber Awards. She was previously a resident artist with Pittsburgh Opera and an apprentice artist with Santa Fe Opera. These current performances mark her San Francisco Symphony debut.
