Biography

Tenor

Michael König was born in Mutlangen, Germany and studied music at the Mannheim Conservatory with Rudolf Piernay.  He has appeared at leading opera houses including the Opéra National de Paris, Hamburg State Opera, Frankfurt Opera, Berlin State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Liceu Barcelona, and Teatro Real Madrid in roles such as Florestan in Fidelio, Max in Der Freischütz, the title role of Lohengrin, Siegmund in Die Walküre, Erik in Der fliegende Holländer, Emperor in Die Frau ohne Schatten, Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos, Jim Mahony in Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny, Andrey Khovansky in Khovanshchina, Grigory/The Pretender in Boris Godunov, and Sergey in Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District. In the 2016-17 season he performs at the Semperoper Dresden for concerts and a new production of Dr. Faustus, in Munich for Beethoven’s Leonore with the Munich Radio Orchestra, in Nancy for Ariadne, and in London for Fidelio with the London Philharmonia. He  makes his debut in Milan's Teatro alla Scala with Der Freischütz in 2017. He has performed with orchestras including the London Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, the Bamberg Symphony, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony, Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon, Montreal Symphony, and the Vienna Symphony. He makes his SFS debut at these performances. Michael König lives with his family in Haida Gwaii, British Columbia.
