SAN FRANCISCO, CA—On May 18, multi-Grammy and Academy Award winner Jon Batiste presents a performance at Davies Symphony Hall as part of his Maestro Tour, a uniquely intimate concert experience showcasing his genre-defying artistry. In this performance, he seamlessly melds styles at the piano, reinventing his own catalog alongside classical music, Black American musical traditions, contemporary pop, stream-of-consciousness experimental improvisations, and more. “This is an opportunity for people to hear me explore my art as if they were in my living room with me—in real time,” said Batiste. “I love the storytelling aspect of these shows as well. It’s not often that I do such intimate and stripped-down performances like this where you can hear and feel every wave of energy as it shifts. I’m excited to share this journey with fans in such an intimate setting, where every performance will be a one-of-a-kind experience—spontaneous, immersive, and deeply personal.” Batiste’s Maestro Tour comes during a landmark year for the visionary musician, following his recent Grammy wins—including Best Music Film for the critically acclaimed Netflix documentary American Symphony and Best Song Written for Visual Media for “It Never Went Away” from the film; his National Anthem performance at the 2025 Super Bowl; and the debut of MY UNITED STATE, a two-track project exploring his personal identity through the filter of the American identity.

The San Francisco Symphony does not appear in this concert.

Jon Batiste is a seven-time Grammy Award-winning and Academy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and composer.

Batiste released his eighth studio album, Beethoven Blues (Batiste Piano Series, Vol. 1), in November 2024 via Verve Records/Interscope. Marking the first installment in his new solo piano series, the project showcases Batiste’s interpolations of some of Beethoven’s most iconic works, reimagined through an expansive lens. Beethoven Blues (Batiste Piano Series, Vol. 1) follows World Music Radio (released August 2023 via Verve), which draws inspiration from Batiste’s mission to create community and expand culture with the power of music. In 2021, Batiste released We Are, which was nominated for 11 Grammy Awards across seven different categories, a first in Grammy history. The album went on to win five Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year. Batiste scored Jason Reitman’s 2024 film Saturday Night, which depicts the lead up to the first broadcast of Saturday Night Live in 1975. Batiste also composed and performed music for the Disney/Pixar film Soul, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Original Score alongside composers Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Soul also earned Batiste a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, an NAACP Image Award, and a Critics' Choice Award.

Batiste was the subject of Matthew Heineman’s moving 2023 documentary American Symphony, released on Netflix in partnership with Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground. Batiste and Dan Wilson’s song “It Never Went Away” earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song.

From 2015 until 2022, Batiste served as the bandleader and musical director of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on CBS.
