Sterling Elliott is a 2021 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient and the winner of the senior division of the 2019 National Sphinx Competition. He has appeared with the Philadelphia Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony, and Dallas Symphony. Last summer he made his Aspen Festival debut, performing the Brahms Double Concerto with Gil Shaham, and he made his German debut in Munich in May 2022, performing chamber music with Daniel Hope.

In the 2022–23 season Mr. Elliott debuts with the Colorado Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, North Carolina Symphony, and Fort Worth Symphony, among others. Recital appearances include the New York Philharmonic, Shriver Hall in Baltimore, and Tippet Rise Art Center in Montana. In October he participates in the Caramoor Music Festival’s Evnin Rising Stars series. He makes his San Francisco Symphony debut with this Shenson Spotlight Series recital.

The youngest of three siblings, Mr. Elliott learned to play the cello at age three, completing the family string quartet, and made his concerto debut at seven. He has a long history with the Sphinx Organization, receiving second place in the 2013 National Sphinx Competition junior division before winning in 2014. In 2016 he received the Isaac Stern Award and toured with the Sphinx Virtuosi in 2018, then won the competition in 2019. Currently a Kovner Fellow at the Juilliard School, he is pursuing a master of music degree. He performs on a 1741 Gennaro Gagliano cello on loan through the Robert F. Smith Fine String Patron Program, in partnership with the Sphinx Organization.
