Soprano

American soprano Katie Van Kooten received her Bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from Biola University where she studied with Jeanne Robison. A graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, she studies voice with Rudolf Piernay. Ms. Van Kooten begins the 2013-14 season with a return to Oper Frankfurt for her role debut as Elettra in Mozart’s Idomeneo. She then makes her debut with the Florida Orchestra performing in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Following previous performances as the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro, she returns to the Lyric Opera of Kansas City and takes the stage as Mimi in Puccini’s La Bohème. She ends her season with performances of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Louisville Symphony.

Highlights of recent seasons include appearances in the role of Elisabetta in Donizetti’s Maria Stuarda and Puccini’s La Bohème at Houston Grand Opera, her company and role debut as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni with Opera Grand Rapids, Vaughan Williams’s A Sea Symphony with the Sioux City Symphony, and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with both the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra and the Charlotte Symphony. Ms. Van Kooten performed in a pops concert with the Baltimore Symphony and returned to her home town to sing in the Bellingham Music Festival alongside Frederica von Stade and Heidi Grant Murphy. She made her San Francisco Symphony debut in 2010.
