Biography

Defying convention and boundaries, TIME FOR THREE stands at the busy intersection of classical music, Americana, and singer- songwriting. To experience Time for Three live is to hear the various eras, styles, and traditions of Western music fold in on themselves and emerge anew. Bonded by an uncommon blend of their instruments fused together with their voices, Charles Yang, Nicolas “Nick” Kendall, and Ranaan Meyer have found a unique voice of expression.

Time for Three has performed at Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Vienna’s Musikverein, Schleswig-Holstein, Royal Albert Hall, Joe’s Pub in New York, and Yoshi’s in San Francisco. They have been invited soloists with the Philadelphia Orchestra, National Symphony, Chicago Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, BBC Concert Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. This performance marks their San Francisco Symphony debut.

Time for Three won an Emmy for Time for Three in Concert, produced by PBS. They recently partnered with cellist and composer Ben Sollee to put together the soundtrack to the new Focus Features’ film Land, starring and directed by Robin Wright. As tireless champions of contemporary classical composers, Time for Three has premiered original works commissioned for their ensemble including concertos by William Bolcom and Chris Brubeck. Time for Three’s most recent commissions, Contact by Kevin Puts and Concerto 4-3 by Jennifer Higdon, are featured on Time for Three’s album Letters for the Future. The album was recorded with the Philadelphia Orchestra and was released on the Deutsche Grammophon label.
