Synergy Vocals evolved out of a quartet of female singers who performed Steve Reich’s Tehillim for the composer’s 60th birthday concert in London in 1996. The ensemble collaborates regularly with Steve Reich & Musicians, Ensemble Modern, Ictus, Asko|Schönberg, London Sinfonietta, and the Colin Currie Group. The group has performed all over the world with many other orchestras and ensembles, including the BBC, Boston, Chicago, New World, and Saint Louis symphonies, Ensemble Intercontemporain, the BBC, Los Angeles, Brooklyn, and New York philharmonics, Nexus, Percussion Claviers de Lyon, Tempo Reale Ensemble; and in collaboration with the Royal Ballet, Mark Baldwin, Rosas, and Opéra de Paris dance companies.

Synergy Vocals has given world premieres of works including Steve Reich’s Three Tales and Daniel Variations, Steven Mackey’s Dreamhouse, Louis Andriessen’s video opera La Commedia, David Lang’s Writing on Water, and James MacMillan’s Since it was the Day of Preparation . . . , as well as the UK premiere of Nono’s Prometeo on London’s South Bank. Synergy Vocals made its debut under San Francisco Symphony auspices in June 2000 in a performance of John Adams’s Grand Pianola Music as part of the American Mavericks Festival.

In 2014 Synergy joined the London Sinfonietta and Jonny Greenwood (of Radiohead) for an appearance at the Glastonbury Festival. The ensemble was also invited to perform with Steve Reich & Musicians at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in a series of concerts marking the fiftieth anniversary of the record label Nonesuch. The group then headed to Paris for performances of Music for 18 Musicians at the Opera Garnier in a show entitled Rain Live choreographed by Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker.

The group’s recordings include Steven Mackey’s Dreamhouse (2011 Grammy winner) with Boston Modern Orchestra Project and Gil Rose, Louis Andriessen’s De Staat with London Sinfonietta and David Atherton, Steve Reich’s Three Tales with Steve Reich & Musicians, Andriessen’s La Commedia with Asko|Schönberg, Kompendium’s Beneath the Waves, These New Puritans’ Field of Reeds, Rob Reed’s Sanctuary, and Steven Wilson’s Grace for Drowning.   Synergy is also featured on television advertisements and film soundtracks including The Wrath of the Titans, Jane Eyre, Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Nanny McPhee, and Triangle.For more information, visit
