Biography

Tenor Alek Shrader’s 2013-14 season includes appearances in the role of Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Dallas Opera. Further opera engagements include Tamino in The Magic Flute at the Metropolitan Opera and Ernesto in Don Pasquale at the Santa Fe Opera. Mr. Shrader can also be heard as Ferrando in Così fan tutte with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic at Disney Hall. These current performances mark his San Francisco Symphony debut.

Mr. Shrader began the 2012-13 season with two engagements at the Metropolitan Opera in New York: as Ferdinand in Ades’s The Tempest and Almaviva in the English version of The Barber of Seville. He sang Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola at the Hamburg State Opera and then returned to North America for a recital tour that included appearances with San Francisco Performances and at Oberlin University, and his debut at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall. He also sang gala performances in Baltimore and with San Antonio Opera. Mr. Shrader closed the season with in Mozart’sRequiem at the Cincinnati May Festival with James Conlon conducting, followed by his role debut as Ernesto in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale at the Glyndebourne Festival.
