Bass
Morris Robinson
An Atlanta native, bass Morris Robinson is a graduate of The Citadel and received his musical training from the Boston University Opera Institute. He regularly appears at the Metropolitan Opera, where he is a graduate of the Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. He has also appeared at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Boston Lyric Opera, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Teatro alla Scala, and Opera Australia in roles such as the title role in Porgy and Bess, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte, Osmin in Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Ramfis in Aïda, Zaccaria in Nabucco, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Grand Inquisitor in Don Carlos, and Timur in Turandot. This season he returns to the Washington National Opera for Aïda, the Los Angeles Opera for both Nabucco and Rigoletto, and to the Dallas Opera for Don Giovanni. He makes his San Francisco Symphony debut at these performances.
Mr. Robinson recently made his debut at the BBC Proms in a performance of Verdi’s Requiem with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. He was 2015-16 artist-in-residence with the Atlanta Symphony and he also appeared in Carnegie Hall as part of Jessye Norman's HONOR! Festival.
Mr. Robinson's first album, Going Home, was released on the Decca label. He can be seen as Joe in the San Francisco Opera’s DVD of Show Boat and in DVDs of the Metropolitan Opera's production of Salome and the Aix-en-Provence Festival's production of Mozart's Zaide.
