Biography
Rose Portillo
Rose Portillo (Åse) is Associate Director of About Productions and founded the company’s Young Theaterworks, serving students in Continuation/Options High Schools primarily in East Los Angeles. She has extensive acting credits in regional theater, film, and television and starred in Severo Perez’s award-winning film And the Earth Did Not Swallow Him. She had a recurring role in the television series Resurrection Blvd, was a series regular on Allan Burn’s Eisenhower & Lutz, and has starred in productions at the Mark Taper Forum, San Diego Rep, and The Mixed Blood. Recently, she directed an adaptation of The Tempest for Shakespeare Center of Los Angeles's award-winning Will Power to Youth. She has received writing commissions from the California Institute of the Arts' Community Arts Program, and has been Writer-in-Residence at the William Inge Center for the Arts. Ms. Portillo is a faculty member at Pomona College. With Theresa Chavez, with whom she has partnered on many acclaimed productions, she has been honored by Playwrights’ Arena with the Lee Melville Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Los Angeles Theatre Community.
