ondes Martenot

As the world’s leading player of the ondes Martenot, Cynthia Millar’s most recent performances include concerts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Auckland Philharmonia, Nashville Symphony, and NHK Symphony. This season she performs Messiaen’s Turangalîla Symphonie with the Berlin Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Brussels Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, and London Symphony, among others. In 2016 she premiered the part specially written for her in Thomas Adès’s opera The Exterminating Angel, playing at the Salzburg Festival, Royal Opera House, Metropolitan Opera, and Royal Danish Opera. She made her San Francisco Symphony debut in 2002.

Ms. Millar studied ondes Martenot with John Morton in England and Jeanne Loriod in France. Her recordings include Turangalîla with the Bergen Symphony and Trois petites liturgies de la présence divine with the Seattle Symphony and London Sinfonietta. She has played in more than 100 film and television scores and has written music for film, television, and theater.
