Contralto

Claudia Huckle studied at the Royal College of Music in London, the New England Conservatory, and the Curtis Institute of Music. She was the 2004 Grand Final Winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and is a graduate of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program at Washington National Opera. Ms. Huckle is the 2013 winner of the Birgit Nilsson Remembrance Award at Plácido Domingo’s Operalia competition at Verona.

Opera plans this season and beyond include the title role in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia for the Glyndebourne 2013 Tour; Marfa in Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina for the Birmingham Opera Company, and Third Lady in The Magic Flute for the Festival d’Aix en Provence and for the Royal Opera, Covent Garden. In July 2013, she completed four years as a member of the ensemble of Leipzig Opera. Ms. Huckle’s concert highlights include Mahler’s Rückert Liederwith the Britten Sinfonia, on tour in Spain, Mozart’s Requiemwith the City of London Sinfonia, and Mary Magdalene in Elgar’s The Apostles at the 2014 Three Choirs Festival.

On the concert platform, Ms. Huckle has sung Bach’s Magnificat with Ensemble Orchestral de Paris, Bach’s Saint Matthew Passion with the Monteverdi Choir, Beethoven’sSymphony No. 9with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, Zelenka’s I Penitenti a Sepolcro del Redentore with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, Haydn’s Lord Nelson Masswith the Northern Sinfonia, and Beethoven’s Missa solemnis at King’s College, Cambridge. She made her San Francisco Symphony debut in 2006.
