First Violin

Veronika Eberle was born in Donauwörth, Germany, where she started violin lessons at the age of six. She studied at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich with Olga Voitova and, after studying privately with Christoph Poppen for a year, she joined the Hochschule in Munich, where she studied with Ana Chumachenco.

Ms. Eberle came to international attention at age sixteen when she performed Beethoven’s Violin Concerto at the 2006 Salzburg Easter Festival with the Berlin Philharmonic. Since that time she has performed with the London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony, Munich Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Berlin Radio Symphony, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Bamberg Symphony, Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, NHK Symphony, and the Rotterdam Philharmonic.

Ms. Eberle’s 2016-17 concert highlights include debuts with the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Philharmonia Orchestra, return engagements with the Montreal Symphony, Munich Chamber Orchestra, and Bavarian Radio Orchestra, and a season-long residency with the Kamerakademie Potsdam. Ms. Eberle appeared in the Hamburg State Opera’s production of Lulu, performing Berg’s Violin Concerto. She recently made her debut with the Boston Symphony at Tanglewood, Mozarteaum Orchestra Salzburg, and the Hamburg Philharmonic. These performances mark her San Francisco Symphony debut.

A dedicated chamber musician, Ms. Eberle regularly partners with artists including Shai Wosner, Lars Vogt, Renaud Capuçon, and Antoine Tamestit. During the 2015-16 season she undertook a chamber music tour with soprano Anna Prohaska in major European venues including Wigmore Hall, the Concertgebouw, Konzerthaus Dortmund, and the Salzburg Festival. Recent recital highlights include appearances in London (Wigmore Hall Master Series), New York (Carnegie Hall debut series), Salzburg (Mozarteum), Amsterdam (Concertgebouw), Paris (Theatre de la Ville), Zurich (Tonhalle), and the Lucerne Festival.

Ms. Eberle won the first prize at the 2003 Yfrah Neaman International Competition in Mainz and was awarded audience awards at the Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern festivals. Recipient of a fellowship from the Borletti-Buitoni Trust in 2008, she was a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist from 2011 to 2013 and a Dortmund Konzerthaus Junge Wilde artist from 2010 to 2012. Ms. Eberle plays the 1700 “Dragonetti” Stradivarius violin, on generous loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.
