Adam Lau
American bass Adam Lau began the 2018-19 season with two new roles, Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte with Kentucky Opera and Frère Laurent in Roméo et Juliette with Utah Opera. In the beginning of 2019 he returned to Seattle Opera for two additional new roles, those of Ferrando in Il Trovatore and Kobun in Mason Bates’s The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs. Other appearances this season include a return to Utah Opera for another role debut as Oroveso in Norma and his Portland Opera debut as Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia. 2018-19 season concert highlights include Mozart’s Requiem with the Charlotte Symphony and Verdi’s Requiem at Carnegie Hall with the Oratorio Society of New York. Mr. Lau won first prize in the 2016 Jensen Vocal Competition and top prize in the 2015 George London Competition. He was also a finalist in the 2016 Dallas Opera Competition. He has appeared with such opera companies as Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Dallas Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and North Carolina Opera, and in leading summer programs including Merola Opera Center, Aspen Opera Theater, and Santa Fe Opera. He made his San Francisco Symphony debut in 2015.
