Open Rehearsal
An Alpine Symphony
May 27, 2027
Overview
Let conductor Daniele Rustioni whisk you away on a tour that starts on the streets of Madrid and winds up in the Italian Alps. Ritirata notturna di Madrid is a captivating mashup of old and new, a posthumous collaboration between two very different composers: the arch-modernist Berio and the Classical Boccherini. Strauss’s An Alpine Symphony recreates a 24-hour mountain adventure, calling for a massive orchestra that includes offstage brass, wind and thunder machines, and cowbells. Inspired by three Biblical prophets, Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Second Violin Concerto, performed by Francesca Dego, celebrates his Jewish heritage.Concert Extras
