Andrew Staples appears regularly with conductors Daniel Harding, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Simon Rattle, Emmanuelle Haïm, Andrew Davis, and Yannick Nézet- Séguin, performing with the Berlin Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, Swedish Radio Orchestra, Bavarian Radio Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Orchestre de Paris, London Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, and Scottish Chamber Orchestra. He made his debut at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, as Jacquino in Fidelio, returning for Flamand in Capriccio, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Tichon in Kát’a Kabanová, and Narraboth in Salome. He has also appeared at the Metropolitan Opera, Prague National Theater, La Monnaie, Saltzburg Festival, Hamburg State Opera, Theater an der Wien, Lucerne Festival, and Lyric Opera of Chicago. He makes his San Francisco Symphony debut with these performances.
Recent and future performances include Das Lied von der Erde with Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Peter Grimes at Teatro La Fenice, The Turn of the Screw with Budapest Festival Orchestra, The Dream of Gerontius with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, The Creation with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Roméo et Juliette with Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Kát’a Kabanová with the London Symphony, Jephtha with Berlin Comic Opera, and Idomeneo with German State Opera Berlin.
Mr. Staples’s creative output includes singing, directing opera and other stage works, filmmaking, and photography. To these complementary disciplines he brings a collaborative approach and a strong desire to tell better stories that build connections between artists and audiences.
