THE JUNE 29 CONCERT IS PRESENTED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH
These concerts, a part of The Barbro and Bernard Osher Masterworks Series, are made possible by a generous gift from Barbro and Bernard Osher.
The first San Francisco Symphony performances of Reena Esmail’s Black Iris are supported by the Phyllis C. Wattis Fund for New Works of Music.
Event Description
SF Symphony Collaborative Partner and classical singer Julia Bullock joins Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Orchestra for a program that sings the American story in works by George Gershwin and Margaret Bonds. Reena Esmail’s Black Iris takes its title from the eponymous Georgia O'Keeffe painting and grapples with the recent #metoo movement. The program closes with Maurice Ravel’s ravishing Daphnis et Chloé, telling the story of two lovers and their wildly adventurous lives.
