DAVID NEWMAN is one of today’s most accomplished creators of music for film. In his thirty-year career he has scored more than 110 films, ranging from War of the Roses, Matilda, Bowfinger, and Heathers to the more recent Girls Trip, Night School, and Serenity. His music has brought to life the critically acclaimed dramas Brokedown Palace and Hoffa; comedies such as Galaxy Quest and Throw Momma from the Train; and animated films Ice Age, The Brave Little Toaster, and Anastasia, which was nominated for an Academy Award.

In 2021, after a decade of conducting numerous live music-to-film concerts for the classic West Side Story film, Mr. Newman arranged the score for Steven Spielberg’s re-imagining of the legendary Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim musical.

Mr. Newman has appeared with the New York and Los Angeles Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, Boston Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, and the Cleveland Orchestra. He made his San Francisco Symphony debut in 2017. An active composer for the concert hall, he has composed works that have been performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Indianapolis Symphony, and Long Beach Symphony. He also composed a violin and orchestra suite for Sarah Chang based on the songs from West Side Story.

Mr. Newman serves on the board of the American Youth Symphony, a pre-professional orchestra based in Los Angeles, and in 2010 he served on the faculty of the Aspen Music Festival’s film scoring program. He is the son of Alfred Newman, the longtime musical director of 20th Century Fox, and is married to wife Krystyna and is the father of two girls, Diana and stepdaughter Brianne.

THOMAS NEWMAN is widely acclaimed as one of today’s most prominent composers for film. He has composed for more than eighty motion pictures and television series and has earned fifteen Academy Award nominations, one Emmy Award, and six Grammy Awards. He is the youngest son of Alfred Newman, the longtime musical director of 20th Century Fox. He studied at the University of Southern California and Yale University, and was mentored by legendary Broadway composer Stephen Sondheim.

As a musical assistant on the 1984 film Reckless, Mr. Newman was quickly promoted to the position of composer, successfully composing his first film score at the age of twenty-seven. Since then he has contributed distinctive and evocative scores to many acclaimed films including Desperately Seeking Susan, Scent of a Woman, The Shawshank Redemption, Little Women, The People vs. Larry Flynt, Meet Joe Black, American Beauty, The Green Mile, Erin Brockovich, Road to Perdition, Finding Nemo, Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, Cinderella Man, Jarhead, Revolutionary Road, WALL-E, The Help, Bridge of Spies, and 1917. Mr. Newman also composed the music for HBO’s Angels in America and received an Emmy Award for his theme for Six Feet Under. Most recently, he scored Let Them All Talk and Little Things. His current and upcoming projects include Operation Mincemeat, Dog, and White Bird. In addition to his work in film and television, Mr. Newman has composed works for the concert hall and stage, including commissions for the Cleveland Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, Kronos Quartet, and Joffrey Ballet.
