Steven Reineke is in his second decade as music director of the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall. He also serves as principal pops conductor of the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center and principal pops conductor of Houston Symphony and Toronto Symphony. He is a frequent guest conductor with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and his extensive conducting appearances include concerts throughout the country. He made his San Francisco Symphony debut in July 2011.

Mr. Reineke has collaborated with many leading artists in hip-hop, R&B, Broadway, television, and rock, including Maxwell, Common, Kendrick Lamar, Nas, Cynthia Erivo, Sutton Foster, Megan Hilty, Cheyenne Jackson, Wayne Brady, Peter Frampton, and Ben Folds. In 2017 NPR’s All Things Considered featured Mr. Reineke leading the National Symphony in live music excerpts between news segments—a first in the show’s 45-year history. In 2018 he led the National Symphony with hip-hop legend Nas in a concert for PBS’s Great Performances.

As the creator of more than 100 orchestral arrangements for the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Mr. Reineke’s work has been performed worldwide and can be heard on numerous recordings on the Telarc label. His symphonic works Celebration Fanfare, Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and Casey at the Bat are widely performed. His Sun Valley Festival Fanfare was chosen to commemorate the Sun Valley Summer Symphony’s pavilion, and his Festival Te Deum and Swan’s Island Sojourn were debuted by Cincinnati Symphony and Cincinnati Pops. His numerous wind ensemble compositions are published by the C.L. Barnhouse Company and are performed by concert bands worldwide.

Capathia Jenkins made her Broadway debut in The Civil War, where she created the role of Harriet Jackson. She then starred in the off-Broadway 2000 revival of Godspell and returned to Broadway in The Look of Love. She also created the roles of The Washing Machine in Caroline, Or Change and Frieda May in Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me. In 2007 she went back to off-Broadway and starred in (mis)Understanding Mammy: The Hattie McDaniel Story for which she was nominated for a Drama Desk Award. She was also seen in Nora Ephron’s Love, Loss, and What I Wore. Most recently, she starred as Medda in the Disney production of Newsies on Broadway.

An active concert artist, Ms. Jenkins has appeared with the Cleveland Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, National Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Utah Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, San Antonio Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Memphis Symphony, Nashville Symphony, Toledo Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Toronto Symphony, Edmonton Symphony, Calgary Philharmonic, Kansas City Symphony, San Diego Symphony, and Hong Kong Philharmonic. She made her San Francisco Symphony debut in July 2018. In 2011 she had the honor of performing in the Broadway Ambassadors to Cuba concert as part of the Festival De Teatro De La Habana.

Ms. Jenkins’s television credits include 30 Rock, The Practice, Law & Order, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and The Sopranos. She can be seen in the 2012 film Musical Chairs and can be heard on the soundtracks of Nine, Chicago, and Legally Blonde 2.

Tony DeSare performs with infectious joy, wry playfulness, and robust musicality. Named a Rising Star Male Vocalist in Downbeat magazine, he has won critical and popular acclaim for concert performances throughout North America and abroad. From jazz clubs to Carnegie Hall, from Las Vegas to major symphony halls, he has brought his fresh take on old-school class to audiences around the globe. He has four Top 10 Billboard jazz albums under his belt and has been featured on CBS’s Early Show, NPR, A Prairie Home Companion, and the Today Show, and his music has been posted by social-media celebrity George Takei. Mr. DeSare has collaborated with YouTube supergroup Postmodern Jukebox and has been a featured guest artist with more than 100 orchestras, including the Cleveland Orchestra, New York Pops, Houston Symphony, and Chicago Symphony.

In addition to his acclaimed turns as a singer and pianist, Mr. DeSare is an award-winning composer who won first place in the USA Songwriting Competition in 2013. He wrote the theme song for the film My Date With Drew and scored several broadcast commercials, as well as five films. His sound is romantic, swinging, and sensual, but what sets Mr. DeSare apart is his ability to write original material that sounds fresh and contemporary while playing homage to the Great American Songbook.

Mr. DeSare, a Yamaha Artist, has a strong presence on social media and continues to release his “song diaries,” recordings from his home studio that started in 2020 and now number in the hundreds. He has numerous recordings available on all platforms and playlists.

The San Francisco Symphony Chorus was established in 1973 at the request of Seiji Ozawa, then the Symphony’s Music Director. The Chorus, numbering 32 professional and more than 120 volunteer members, now performs more than 26 concerts each season. Louis Magor served as the Chorus’s director during its first decade. In 1982 Margaret Hillis assumed the ensemble’s leadership, and the following year Vance George was named Chorus Director, serving through 2005–06. Ragnar Bohlin concluded his tenure as Chorus Director in 2021, a post he had held since 2007. Jenny Wong was named Chorus Director in September 2023.

The Chorus can be heard on many acclaimed San Francisco Symphony recordings and has received Grammy Awards for Best Performance of a Choral Work (for Orff’s Carmina burana, Brahms’s German Requiem, and Mahler’s Symphony No. 8) and Best Classical Album (for a Stravinsky collection and for Mahler’s Symphony No. 3 and Symphony No. 8).
