Overview

Due to the current COVID-19 situation and the Public Health Order prohibiting gatherings of 100 or more persons, the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra is unable to rehearse at Davies Symphony Hall, and the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra Plays Brahms Symphony No. 2 concert has been canceled.

In the final San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra performance of the season, our young musicians deliver an eclectic spectrum of works by history’s giants and today’s icons. First, an enigmatic masterpiece: Schubert’s Unfinished Symphony. Inexplicably abandoned with only two movements composed—and not premiered until nearly 40 years after Schubert’s death—the work was hailed by the composer’s friend as “a treasure, . . . on a level with any one of the symphonies by Beethoven.” Next, Eating Greens, a colorful and wildly creative piece by Grammy award-winning contemporary composer Steven Mackey. The Youth Orchestra’s performance season closes on a high note with the glorious melodies and sunny atmosphere of Brahms’ Symphony No. 2.
