Hélène Grimaud in Recital

Overview

San Francisco Mayor London N. Breed announced that War Memorial Performing Arts Center venues, including Davies Symphony Hall, will be closed for all public events for the next two weeks in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19. All San Francisco Symphony Concerts scheduled at Davies Symphony Hall through March 25 are canceled. Please see home page for details.

Hélène Grimaud—equal parts agile, independent, and elegant—takes center stage in a crowd-pleasing piano recital that highlights her breathtaking intuition and inventiveness. Experience these multi-faceted talents in a program that sparkles with French miniatures, including Debussy’s bewitching Clair de lune, alongside the sleek minimalism of Satie’s avant-garde Gnossiennes. Hear these and other French gems along with spellbinding Mazurakas and waltzes by piano royalty, Chopin. The program concludes in spectacular fashion with Schumann‘s Kreisleriana, a kaleidoscopic spectrum of shifting moods and colors anchored with extreme virtuosity, and regarded by many (including Schumann) as the composer’s finest composition.
