Swedish-Norwegian violinist Johan Dalene won the Norwegian Soloist Prize and first prize at the 2019 Carl Nielsen Competition, which was broadcast to audiences worldwide on medici.tv. Recent and upcoming orchestral highlights include his debut at the BBC Proms with the BBC Symphony, as well as debut performances with the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Danish Radio Symphony, Lucerne Symphony, and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic. This concert marks his debut with the San Francisco Symphony.

Mr. Dalene will be giving a series of recitals in the United States for the first time in Spring 2023, including performances at Carnegie Hall. Other chamber highlights include a new collaboration with Igor Levit and Julia Hagen for performances at Wigmore Hall and the Heidelberg Festival; a collaboration with the Jussen Brothers for the Mecklenburg-Vorpommen Festival; and recitals at the Hyogo Performing Arts Centre, Oslo Opera House, and St George’s Bristol. Recording exclusively for BIS, Mr. Dalene released his third album, featuring the Nielsen and Sibelius concertos, in March 2022. It garnered Mr. Dalene his third Editor’s Choice award from Gramophone.

Mr. Dalene began playing the violin at age four and made his professional concerto debut three years later. The recipient of numerous scholarships and prizes, he studies with Per Enoksson at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, as well as with Janine Jansen. He plays a Stradivarius violin from 1736, generously on loan from the Anders Sveaas’ Charitable Foundation.
