Chamber Music: Legion of Honor
Overview
The San Francisco Symphony and the Fine Arts Museums are thrilled to present the acclaimed Chamber Music Series at the Legion of Honor. Experience brilliant Concertmaster Alexander Barantschik playing the gorgeous 1742 del Gesu violin, generously on loan from the Fine Arts Museums. He leads members of the Orchestra in a program of celebrated chamber composers, featuring an allstar trifecta of heavy hitters. Beethoven’s Piano Trio was the work he chose to officially introduce himself to the world: his Opus 1. In true Beethovenian fashion, the piece goes off like a cannon and never comes down. Famous for its Rondo alla turca movement, Mozart’s melodic Piano Sonata remains one of his most enduringly popular works. Straying away from his usual expansive style, Brahms’ Piano Trio No. 3 is distilled into a compact but muscular statement tempered with surprising moments of delicate lyricism.
