Throughline: San Francisco Symphony—
From Hall to Home Sponsorship Packages
Saturday, November 14, 2020
5:30pm PST | VIP Virtual Happy Hour
7:00pm PST | KQED 9 Public Television Concert Broadcast
This year the San Francisco Symphony welcomes new Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen and eight Collaborative Partners with a digital concert event that charts a new direction for the Orchestra. The vibrant program includes music by Ellen Reid, John Adams, Kev Choice, and Ludwig van Beethoven, and is highlighted by the world premiere of Collaborative Partner Nico Muhly’s Throughline, a San Francisco Symphony commission written specifically for a digital medium and filmed in locations around the world.
Throughline: San Francisco Symphony—From Hall to Home is dedicated to the memory of longtime SF Symphony friend and supporter Ann Getty. The event is co-chaired by James C. Hormel and Michael P. N. Hormel. Elements of the Symphony’s annual All San Francisco Concert have been incorporated into this special event, making it accessible on a global scale but grounded with a local focus. The All San Francisco Community Concert co-chairs, Andrea Ceseña and Selina Weiss, and the All San Francisco Committee are thrilled to present the annual Ellen Magnin Newman Award to honor an outstanding local community service organization. This year’s recipient is Hip Hop For Change, a Black-led grassroots nonprofit in Oakland that seeks to address the injustices of misrepresentation through Hip Hop pedagogy and community building.
We are excited that this concert event will broadcast locally on November 14 at 7pm PST on KQED Public Television and simultaneously stream worldwide at sfsymphony.org, where it will remain for free on-demand viewing. The program will be re-broadcast on NBC Bay Area on November 30 at 7pm PST. By offering multiple streamed viewing opportunities, we will be able to make this event accessible to more households than we ever thought possible, in addition to giving everyone a bit more leg room than is usually available at Davies Symphony Hall!
Sponsorship of this event supports the San Francisco Symphony’s myriad artistic, education, and community programs, and allows the Symphony to provide this virtual event free of charge and accessible to all.
Sponsor benefits include name recognition and access to an hour-long virtual VIP pre-event Happy Hour. Plus, sponsors will receive a Festivity Kit to help celebrate this concert event in style. Sponsors at the Preferred Sponsor level and above will also have the opportunity for exclusive engagement with San Francisco Symphony musicians.
This year, the San Francisco Symphony is honored to be partnering with the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank to raise awareness for this incredible organization during their busiest time of year. Sponsors of Throughline: San Francisco Symphony—From Hall to Home can opt to convert part of their Festivity Kits into a food donation to the Food Bank.

As you may know, the IRS has not yet issued guidance governing contributions from Donor Advised Funds. The sector “best practices” regarding grants from Donor Advised Funds, Private/Family Foundations, and Corporate Foundations have been evolving. Individual donors are not able to accept benefits in return for contributions made from a Donor Advised Fund. In effect, this means the San Francisco Symphony is not permitted to offer benefits such as tickets to concerts/events and meals in exchange for such contributions. The San Francisco Symphony would be happy to accept payment directly from the individual/corporation for the published price of the event, and offer name recognition in programs and other materials based on the total amount received, including any additional gift from the Donor Advised Fund or Foundation. Please contact your Foundation, Donor Advised Fund, or other professional advisors for guidance on your specific situation.
