Supporting Inspirations on a Major Scale
For Nicole Lacob and Rachael Bowman, making a positive impact in their community is an essential part of daily life. With so many ways to make a difference in their busy schedules, Nicole and Rachael are especially passionate about the San Francisco Symphony and its mission to inspire and engage young people with music. With proceeds of the Symphony’s Opening Night Gala sustaining and strengthening the Symphony’s myriad community programs, it was only natural Nicole and Rachael were asked to chair this year’s special event, the 25th and final of Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas’s illustrious tenure.
“Classical music has been a passion my entire life,” says Rachael. “And I think it is so important to be able to provide access to music for children everywhere.” An enthusiastic supporter of many San Francisco community organizations, she volunteers and serves on various committees for local arts groups and schools. Rachael’s connection to the Symphony began in 2010 when she joined the SFS Youth Orchestra Committee.
Nicole’s involvement began with another of the SFS’s key fundraisers for education programs, the former, biennial Black & White Ball. “It was a great event that made San Francisco and the San Francisco Symphony come alive,” she says. Nicole is also Board President of the Warriors Community Foundation, the charitable arm of the Golden State Warriors, which has raised more than $10 million to support education and youth development in the Bay Area.
Supporting passions and skills among youth is a common theme for both Nicole and Rachael, and their work goes beyond just music education. They are as interested in sustaining the idea of the Symphony itself, working to, in Rachael’s words, “usher in the next generation to support this fabulous institution.”
