The Contra Costa League of the San Francisco Symphony was founded in 1973 by Contra Costa residents who support and enjoy the San Francisco Symphony. It is one of nine volunteer groups in the Bay area and coordinated by the Symphony’s Volunteer Council, also established in 1973. The League’s mission is to encourage community service, support the Symphony in audience development, and raise funds for the Symphony’s community and education programs.
The League’s primary community focus is music education through the Symphony’s Concerts for Kids Program which introduces school children to the wonders of classical music. Interested league members train as docents and prepare students from Contra Costa area schools to attend these special concerts performed by the San Francisco Symphony at Davies Symphony.
Throughout the year, League members enjoy a variety of local social and musical events and San Francisco Symphony concerts at Davies Symphony Hall. General meetings are held in the morning, the third Monday of the month, and include a business meeting followed by either a musical performance or educational speaker.
The League’s spring fundraiser, Play for the Symphony, will be held Monday, March 26, at the Crow Canyon Country Clun in Danville. The event will include seated luncheon, silent auction, and games including bridge, mah-jongg, Scrabble, and more.
