Family-friendly Symphony concerts for all ages

Want to kick start your little one’s creativity? Cultivate a lifelong love of music in your pre-teen? Inspire the kids to look up from their phones? Then shake up the family routine with the SF Symphony! From Ghostbusters and Día de los Muertos, to a multisensory Tchaikovsky concert and A Charlie Brown Christmas, these family-friendly concerts make it easy for parents and kids to join in an entertaining, inspiring music experience that everyone can enjoy, no matter the age. Even the price is family-friendly—so you can broaden their minds without breaking your budget.

Music for Families (ages 5+)

Dec 14: Holidays Around the World: Journey through an enchanting winter wonderland of holiday music from around the world—we’ll hop from country to country in a whirlwind exploration of wintertime festivities, vibrant music, and rich holiday traditions. All aboard!

Feb 29: Out West: Saddle up for a rip-roaring adventure through the ol’ Wild West! You’ll hear music that sounds like the thundering hoof beats of a galloping horse, a glorious sunrise in the Grand Canyon, a rough ‘n’ tough time at the rodeo, and even a song or two about a beloved toy cowboy named Woody—Yee-haw!

Family-Friendly Events (ages 5+/12+)

Nov 1-2: Coco—Film with the SF Symphony: This Academy Award-winning smash hit (Best Original Song, Best Animated Feature Film) stars a music-loving boy who makes a dazzling journey to the Land of the Dead to reunite with his great-great-grandfather.

Nov 2: Día de los Muertos Community Concert: Join the SF Symphony for a vibrant Day of the Dead celebration, featuring traditional Latin American music and culture, dazzling guest artists, colorful festivities, and fun-filled events for the entire family.

Nov 29-30: Ghostbusters—Film with the SF Symphony: Boasting an unforgettable theme song that topped the Billboard Top 100, this infectiously fun comedy classic follows an eccentric band of paranormal investigators—led by the hilarious Bill Murray—as they wage a spectacular battle with the supernatural in New York City.

Apr 16-18: Tchaik 5 & Mason Bates’ Philharmonia Fantastique (ages 12+): The brainchild of composer/DJ Mason Bates, seven-time Academy Award-winning sound designer/director Gary Rydstrom, and Academy Award-nominated animator Jim Capobianco, this imaginative, multi-sensory experience blends music, visual art, and sound design as the orchestra’s various “families” overcome tribal differences and synthesize as one.

Holiday Concerts (ages 5+/12+)

Dec 13-14: Handel’s Messiah (ages 12+): Experience the glorious majesty of Handel’s Messiah performed by the Grammy Award-winning SF Symphony Chorus and world-class soloists. Featuring the famous “Hallelujah” Chorus, the magnificent power of 100 voices in harmony makes this celebrated masterpiece one of the best-loved musical works of all time.

Dec 15: Holiday Brass: The popular Holiday Brass concert is back! Feel the power and precision of the SF Symphony brass section as they fill the Hall with a festive mix of classical and popular holiday favorites.

Dec 21-23: A Charlie Brown Christmas: Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and the entire Peanuts gang are back at Davies Symphony Hall to bring this television classic to life! With live actors, an animated backdrop, and Vince Guaraldi’s timeless music performed live by the SF Symphony, this is a beloved holiday classic you won’t want to miss.
