Biography

Soprano

Born in Calgary, Erin Wall studied piano at the Vancouver Academy of Music. She holds music degrees from Western Washington University and Rice University, and she attended the Aspen Music Festival and the Music Academy of the West. Ms. Wall made her San Francisco Symphony debut in 2004 and can be heard as a soloist on the SFS recording of Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with Michael Tilson Thomas conducting. She appeared here most recently last June.

Last season, Erin Wall made her debut with the Canadian Opera Company as Clémence in L’amour de loin, and also performed as Antonia in Les Contes d’Hoffmann with Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Canadian Opera Company. Last summer, she sang her first Arabella with the Santa Fe Opera. Ms. Wall’s concert appearances last season included Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and Kansas City Symphony; the 50th-anniversary performance of Britten’s War Requiem at the Coventry Cathedral, where the work premiered; Richard Strauss’s Four Last Songs in Brazil, the Netherlands, and Canada; and Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and in Tokyo’s NHK Hall. This season, Ms. Wall performs Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 with the Nashville Symphony, Beethoven’s Missa solemnis with the Chicago Symphony, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the Toronto Symphony. She also makes appearances at the Proms in London and at the Edinburgh Festival. Ms. Wall’s 2012-13 opera season includes Donna Anna in Mozart’s Don Giovanni with the Bavarian State Opera and the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro with the Arizona Opera.

Erin Wall first captured attention after stepping in as a last-minute replacement soloist for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s 2001 New Year’s Eve gala; shortly thereafter she made her European concert debut in Britten’s War Requiem with the London Symphony Orchestra. Among her honors are the 2004 Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Award from the Aria Foundation and a commendation at the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions. Ms. Wall represented Canada in the finals of the 2003 BBC Singer of the World competition.
