Biography

Alan Opie (Balstrode) is a regular guest at the Metropolitan Opera, Bayreuth Festival, La Scala, Vienna State Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Santa Fe Opera, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, English National Opera, and Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. At English National Opera he was nominated for the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera for his performance of Falstaff. Recent performances include the role of Balstrode in Peter Grimes with both the London Philharmonic and the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. He will also return to Welsh National Opera in La Traviata and the Metropolitan Opera in Adams’s Death of Klinghoffer. He performs Elgar's oratorio King Olav with the Bergen Philharmonic, also to be recorded for Chandos. Alan Opie has recorded for the CBS, EMI, Hyperion, Chandos, Naxos, and Decca labels. He was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2013. He made his San Francisco Symphony debut in 2007.
