Biography

Kelly Markgraf’s 2012-13 season includes the title role in Don Giovanni with Madison Opera, Stravinsky’s Le Rossignol with the Boston Symphony, a recital at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall with the Marilyn Horne Foundation,  and Bach's O Ewigkeit, du Donnerwort, BWV 60 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He returns to Aspen Music Festival this summer as Ned Keene in a semi-staged performance of Peter Grimes, conducted by Robert Spano. Mr. Markgraf has performed the roles of Count Almaviva in Le nozze di Figaro with Kentucky Opera, Malatesta in Don Pasquale at Hawaii Opera, and Papageno in Die Zauberflöte with Apollo’s Fire Baroque Orchestra. In concert, he joined the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra for Ned Rorem's Aftermath, and also appeared with the New York Philharmonic, the Oklahoma Mozart Festival, Chamber Music Northwest, and the Music@Menlo Festival. He performed the role of Allazim in Mozart’s Zaide at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall and Zebul in Handel’s Jephtha with Sacred Music in a Sacred Space, and he appeared in the US premiere of Shostakovich’s War Front Songs at Symphony Space. He also appeared in a workshop of Michael Torke’s opera Senna as part of the Metropolitan Opera/Lincoln Center Theater Opera/Theater Commissions Program, and sang Mahler and Brahms at the Caramoor International Music Festival, and Schumann lieder at the Music@Menlo Festival. Mr. Markgraf makes his SFS debut at these performances.
