Biography

Brandon Jovanovich (Florestan) is a native of Billings, Montana, and received his training at Northern Arizona University and Manhattan School of Music. Recipient of the 2007 Richard Tucker Award, he was twice a New York City district winner in the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. He was also a member of the Seattle Opera Young Artists program and the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice program, where he received the Anna Mackay Case Award. He won the Crawley Award from the Young Patronesses of the Opera/Florida Grand Opera Voice Competition and in 2004 he received the ARIA Award.

Operatic highlights of Mr. Jovanovich’s current season include the role of Sam in Carlisle Floyd’s Susannah at San Francisco Opera, a return to the Metropolitan Opera as Sergei in Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District, Walter in Lyric Opera of Chicago’s production of Mieczysław Weinberg’s The Passenger, and a reprise of the role of Florestan in Fidelio at Zurich Opera House. Orchestral engagements include Beethoven’s Missa solemnis with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and San Francisco Symphony (in his debut), led by Michael Tilson Thomas, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater with the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal, and his New York Philharmonic debut in Verdi’s Requiem. Mr. Jovanovich’s performance as the Prince in Dvořák’s Rusalka, was released as a live recording on Glyndebourne’s independent label. His appearance as Cavaradossi in Tosca at the Bregenz Festival was featured in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace.
