Sara Couden
Berkeley native Sara Couden graduated from San Francisco Conservatory of Music with a Master of Music in Voice and was a Fellow at the Music Academy of the West where she studied with Marilyn Horne. She earned an Artist's Diploma from Yale’s Early Music, Chamber Music, and Oratorio degree program. She has performed with Livermore Valley Opera, Townsend Opera, Lamplighters, and West Edge Opera. Ms. Couden is a member of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and recently made her debut as the Aunt in Jenůfa.
This season she performs the role of Kabanicha with Juilliard Opera in Kát’a Kabanová, and returns to the Marlboro Music Festival to perform Mahler and Schubert with Mitsuko Uchida. Other performances include pieces by Gubaidulina, Piaf, Crumb, Britten, Brahms, Monteverdi, and Gesualdo, with festivals and organizations such as Music@Menlo, Music for Food, Cantata Profana, and the Staunton Music Festival. She makes her SFS debut at these performances.
