Biography

Christine Brewer was born in Illinois and began her professional career with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. Ms. Brewer recently performed R. Strauss’s Four Last Songs with the BBC Scottish Symphony under Martyn Brabbins, Schoenberg’s Gurrelieder in Madrid, Tristan und Isolde with the Sydney Symphony, Mdm. Lidoine in Dialogues de Carmelites at the Opera Theater of Saint Louis, Mother Superior in The Sound of Music for the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and a recital at the Edinburgh Festival with Roger Vignoles. She recently sang the role of Sister Aloysius in the world premiere of Douglas J. Cuomo’s Doubt for the Minnesota Opera, a role she will reprise in Saint Louis. Other Upcoming engagements include recitals with Paul Jacobs in Atlanta, Saint Louis, and New York, with Craig Rutenberg in New York, and with Craig Terry in Chicago.

Ms. Brewer’s many recordings include Don Giovanni under Charles Mackerras, Barber’s Vanessa under Leonard Slatkin, Fidelio with Colin Davis, Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos under Richard Armstrong and Four Last Songs with Donald Runnicles, Britten’s War Requiem with Kurt Masur, Verdi’s Requiem under Colin Davis, Mahler’s Eighth Symphony under Simon Rattle, and Schubert and Strauss recitals. She recently released an album of works for voice and organ with Paul Jacobs on Naxos. Ms. Brewer is the recipient of the BBC Radio 3 Listener’s Award of the 2008 Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards. She made her San Francisco Symphony debut in 1994.
