Conductor

Portuguese-­‐American conductor Jacomo Bairos is Music Director of the Amarillo Symphony and co-­‐founder and Artistic Director for Miami-­‐based genre-­‐bending chamber orchestra Nu Deco Ensemble. A graduate of the Juilliard School, Mr. Bairos has performed, toured, and recorded with the New York Philharmonic and the orchestras of Chicago, Cincinnati, and Seattle. He has held principal positions with orchestras in the US and Spain, and he was principal tuba for the Singapore Symphony from 2004 to 2007. A graduate of the conducting programs of both the Peabody Institute and Aspen Music Festival, his musical mentors include Gustav Meier, Robert Spano, Jorma Panula, and Kurt Masur.

Mr. Bairos regularly presents insightful and engaging musical performances to schools and children across the US and abroad. He has crafted interactive programs and concerts for orchestras, such as Amarillo’s Class Act and SymphonyKids, Nu Deco Ensemble’s Imagine Series, and Carnegie Hall’s Link-­‐Up Program, which enriches the lives of tens of thousands of children annually.

Mr. Bairos’s recent highlights include performances of nine commissioned world premieres, his debut with the Detroit Symphony, and repeat appearances with the National, Atlanta, Sarasota, and Grand Rapids symphonies. Internationally, he has appeared with the Malaysian Philharmonic, Orquesta Sinfónica Provincial de Santa Fe, Orquesta Sinfónica de la Universidad de Guanajuato, Singapore Symphony, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, and Orquesta Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música. Mr. Bairos has also collaborated with artists such as Jeremy Denk, Garrick Ohlsson, Anne-­‐Marie McDermott, Pablo Sáinz Villegas, Bryce Dessner, Kishi Bashi, Bilal, and the classical crossover group Project Trio. He also continues to work closely with multi-­‐platinum singer-­‐songwriter, Ben Folds. He makes his San Francisco Symphony debut at this performance.
