Event Description

The mercurial world of gods, demigods, and myth take center stage once again as Jean-Yves Thibaudet joins Esa-Pekka Salonen and the SF Symphony for Alexander Scriabin’s Prometheus: The Poem of Fire, a work whose bright and colorful brushstrokes tell the story of the audacious Prometheus. Franz Liszt brings panache to the same tale in a tempestuous tone poem, while Jean-Philippe Rameau explores the legend of Castor and Pollux. Fang Man’s Song of the Flaming Phoenix, heard here in its world premiere, blends myths of different traditions in a showcase for sheng virtuoso Wu Wei.
