Event Description

The San Francisco Symphony’s second Myths & Mortals program features Scriabin’s spectacular Prometheus: The Poem of Fire, performed by the beloved, enigmatic pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Calling for a clavier à lumières, a keyboard that links colored lights with sounds, Scriabin’s transformative piece brings the senses together, heightened in their orbit of each other, while telling a mythic tale of man, cosmos, and fire. The program also includes ballet music by Beethoven and Stravinsky, both inspired by stories from ancient mythology, and the world premiere of a San Francisco Symphony and Toulmin co-commission by Fang Man, a work blending Chinese and Greek myths.
