Event Description
The legendary Hilary Hahn is a once-in-a-generation violinist whose name is synonymous with impeccable interpretations of solo J.S. Bach, brilliant performances of romantic violin concertos, and a tireless commitment to commissioning and performing new music. She returns to Davies Symphony Hall for two raucous violin showpieces: Ginastera’s tumultuous and dramatic Violin Concerto and Sarasate’s dazzling Carmen Fantasy, which borrows some of the most memorable melodies from Bizet’s fiery opera Carmen and reimagines them for violin and orchestra. Making her San Francisco Symphony debut, Elim Chan leads the Orchestra in Rimsky-Korsakov’s rambunctious and colorful Scheherazade—a piece sure to send sparks flying.
