San Francisco Boys Chorus
Ian Robertson, Director
The San Francisco Boys Chorus (SFBC) exists to discover, develop, and encourage boys with unchanged voices through its music programs. Its heritage of nearly seventy years of training young performers for the opera and other major musical institutions has established the highest standards of excellence. Beyond its deep commitment to quality music education, the chorus builds a boy’s character as well as his talent. The SFBC programs reflect an instructional approach designed to nurture self-esteem, leadership, independence, discipline, and responsibility, as well as a lifelong love of music. The SFBC is comprised of the Grammy award-winning Concert Chorus, the Graduate Chorale, the hand bell program, and the four-level chorus school, which includes the preparatory chorus. The concert chorus is the SFBC’s premiere performing ensemble and is comprised of choristers who exhibit vocal excellence, performance flair, and exceptional musicianship skills. Led by Artistic Director Ian Robertson, the Concert Chorus, comprised of boys ages ten to thirteen, presents a full concert series in the San Francisco Bay Area, tours nationally and internationally, records often, and appears annually with renowned artistic partners such as San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Ballet, Robert Moses’ Kin Dance Company, Midsummer Mozart Festival, and Stanford Live.
