Anna Christy (The Fire, The Princess, The Nightingale)
Anna Christy was born in Chicago, IL and raised in Pasadena, CA. She spent her summers in Tokyo, Japan, at her mother’s family home, and is fluent in Japanese. She is a graduate of Rice University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. The 2018-19 season sees the soprano appear as Tytania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Opera Philadelphia and in her debut with Colorado Symphony singing Finzi’s In Terra Pax. Last season she sang Gilda in Rigoletto with Canadian Opera Company and returned to Japan for performances as Lauretta in Gianni Schicchi with Seiji Ozawa. Other appearances included the title role in Lucia di Lammermoor with Florida Grand Opera, Marzelline in Fidelio with Boston Baroque, and Adele in Die Fledermaus with Des Moines Metro Opera. Ms. Christy made her Metropolitan Opera debut as Papagena in Die Zauberflöte and appeared as Hortense in the world premiere of Tobias Picker’s An American Tragedy. Other notable debuts include the roles of Muffin in the world premiere of William Bolcom’s A Wedding at the Lyric Opera of Chicago and Zemire in Grétry’s Zemire et Azor with Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. She made her San Francisco Smphony debut in 2004.
