Jonathan Dimmock is currently principal organist at the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, music director at Congregation Sherith Israel, organ instructor at Sonoma State University, organ conservator at First Presbyterian Church in Oakland, and he often appears with the San Francisco Symphony. A graduate of Oberlin and Yale, his teachers and mentors have included Olivier Messiaen, Gillian Weir, Peter Hallock, Paul Halley, Simon Preston, Jean Langlais, Harald Vogel, Ton Koopman, William Porter, J. Franklin Clark, Thomas Murray, and Haskell Thomson. He has the distinction of being the only American organ scholar of Westminster Abbey; he has also served three American cathedrals: Saint John the Divine in New York, Saint Mark’s in Minneapolis, and Grace in San Francisco. For more than twelve years, he was music director at Saint Ignatius Church in San Francisco. Mr. Dimmock is co-founder of American Bach Soloists, founding director AVE (Artists’ Vocal Ensemble), and founder of The Resonance Project, which uses music in international conflict resolution. His more than fifty CDs appear on labels including Gothic, Loft, Raven, BCI Records, Time-Warner Recordings, and Koch International.
