Inspired by W.H. Auden's eponymous poem, Bernstein's The Age of Anxiety follows the story of four people pondering the meaning of life. With the occasional foray into a group dream, boisterous party, plus a nightcap or two, pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet joins the San Francisco Symphony for this lively work. Then, hear R. Strauss' spectacular Ein Heldenleben, an autobiographical account of a hero's valiant journey from the battlefield to a life of peace and contentment.
Take a peek behind-the-scenes and experience a San Francisco Symphony performance in the making. It begins at 8:30am with coffee, doughnuts, and a half-hour informative talk at 9am. Then, watch as the conductor and musicians collaborate to bring the music to life.
