Concerts for Kids

Training is offered each year for docents interested in going into classrooms to help prepare students for the special children’s concerts presented by the Symphony.  The Children’s Concerts (grades K through 3) and the Youth Concerts (grades 4 through 9) are each presented eight times during the school year. Docents train over 3,500 students in over 55 schools each year.

Docent Tours

Volunteers provide weekly tours to visitors of Davies Symphony Hall.  Tours are conducted on Mondays and by appointment on Wednesdays and Saturdays.  A self-taught training program is available to volunteers with support from experienced volunteers during the training period.

Open Rehearsal Hosts

Volunteers serve coffee and doughnuts to patrons attending one or more of the eight Open Rehearsal programs throughout the season.  Patrons are invited to attend Open Rehearsals to observe how the Symphony prepares for concerts.  Volunteers arrive at Davies Symphony Hall at 7:30 a.m. to prepare.

Repeat Performance

The Symphony’s resale shop, located at 2436 Fillmore Street, has been in business since 1972.  Volunteers assist as sales associates, cashiers, pricers and organizers.  The shop is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Repeat Performance is closed on Sundays.

Symphony Store

The Symphony Store, in operation since 1981, is located above the Box Office at Davies Symphony Hall. It is open one hour before and after each performance and during intermission, as well as, Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Volunteers assist as sales associates, cashiers, and with inventory.

Office Volunteers

Volunteers work in the Volunteer Council Office helping with computer tasks, mailings, special events support and other administrative duties.  Some volunteers are asked to help Symphony staff in Public Relations, Development and Publications departments, primarily with office duties.

Special Events Staffing

This committee provides support to Opening Gala, Deck the Hall, Chinese New Year Celebration, and other special events by helping with set-up, reception and registration, distribution of gifts and programs, patron direction and other duties as required by the particular special event.

Volunteer Council Leagues

The Symphony’s ten Bay Area Leagues plan local social events, fundraisers, and special activities that build classical music awareness, engage community, and attract new audiences. League volunteers serve as Symphony ambassadors in their own Bay Area community. All proceeds benefit the San Francisco Symphony. Click here for more information about Symphony Leagues.

Volunteer Council Appreciation

Throughout the year the Volunteer Council hosts events in appreciation of the San Francisco Symphony Volunteers including, the Volunteer Council Night at the Symphony, the Volunteer Council Annual Meeting, the Volunteer Council Holiday Party and the Office Volunteers Luncheon.
