Nathaniel Stookey The Composer is Dead, with original text by Lemony Snicket
You’ve loved his books and the movie A Series of Unfortunate Events. Now Lemony Snicket teams with San Francisco composer and former SFS Youth Orchestra member Nathaniel Stookey in creating a newly commissioned work for the SFS, The Composer is Dead (with apologies to Stookey). Built on the tradition of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf, this family concert introduces the instruments and sheds light on the inner workings of the orchestra, making classical music accessible to children. Lemony Snicket narrates the whodunit murder mystery with the grim hilarity that makes his best-selling children’s books so popular. The SFS plays live for this world premiere.
Lemony Snicket will sign books in the lobby following the concert.

Broadway star Linda Eder is an extravagantly gifted vocalist whose earliest influences were Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand. Like Garland, Eder knows how to pierce the deepest meaning of a song and to sing with the purest power and clarity. Eder’s trademark style is classic Garland: a swinging dialog with the band, rising tension, and a big finish. The program features Linda Eder and her band performing standards, pop hits, and original songs for one spectacular night.

These acrobats defy gravity with amazing displays of contortion, flexibility, and control. Daring maneuvers atop a precarious pagoda of chairs, walking the wire, trick-cycling, tumbling, and somersaulting make this performance one where you will be sitting on the edge of your seat. Together with the SFS, these gifted acrobats create the excitement and pageantry of a Chinese carnival.
