Information for Youth Orchestra auditions

2009-10 Season Calendar

Admission to the Youth Orchestra requires commitment to the following concerts, both in San Francisco and in Cupertino.

All San Francisco performances are held in the afternoon at Davies Symphony Hall. Programs will be announced at a later date.

Rehearsal Schedule
Saturday afternoons, 1p.m-5p.m.
Five weekday evening rehearsals (November 10, December 10, March 11, March 18, and May 12)
Two intensive rehearsal weekends (October 3-4 and April 24-25)
1st Rehearsal: Saturday, September 12, 2009

Audition Dates for the 2009-10 season
Spring Auditions:
May 18 – June 18, 2009 (selected dates)
Spring application deadline:
May 4, 2009
Summer auditions:
August 17 – September 11, 2009 (selected dates)
Summer application deadline:
August 7, 2009

Candidates are strongly encouraged to audition during the Spring. Candidates are eligible to audition one time each audition season. Spring applicants are not eligible to audition again in the Summer unless invited to do so.

Eligibility: Candidates must be twenty years old or younger by the first rehearsal, residents of the Greater Bay Area, and prepared for sincere commitment to a full rehearsal and concert schedule.

Application and Scheduling: To apply for an audition simply complete and submit the following application. Candidates will be notified by phone of their audition time after each application deadline. Auditions are scheduled in ten-minute intervals. Auditions for each instrument group are generally held on a single day. For this reason, please understand that alternate dates and times may not be available due to scheduling restrictions.

Adjudication: The Youth Orchestra Music Director and members of the San Francisco Symphony will adjudicate all auditions. Please be aware that due to limited time allotment, judges will only be able to hear excerpts from your audition material.

Location: All auditions are held in practice rooms of Davies Symphony Hall. Directions and parking information will be provided upon scheduling the audition. No accompanists, please.
