Bass Training Program
Bass Training Program
Created in 1995 to address the scarcity of student bassists in the Bay Area, the Bass Training Program supports instrumental classes in selected middle schools and high schools in San Francisco and the East Bay. The program is directed by noted bass pedagogue Barry Green, former principal bassist of the Cincinnati Symphony and author of The Inner Game of Music and The Mastery of Music: Ten Pathways to True Artistry. In addition to Barry Green, the faculty includes bassists Richard Duke and Ashley Adams.
The program recruits beginning bassists at the start of the school year and provides instruction throughout the year. The program also includes “Bass Bashes,” days of workshops and recitals by student bassists of all levels and professionals. These events foster a support community among Bay Area bassists and serve as a strong incentive to young bassists.
