Preparing Students for a Visit
The San Francisco Symphony provides a number of free resources and materials for parents, volunteers and teachers to prepare school-age children for what will be, for many, their first visit to a live orchestra concert. Students who benefit most from the concert experience are those who are given a presentation and have discussed and listened to the music prior to the concert.

Docent Training Workshop
A free Docent Training Workshop is offered each season for teachers, parents, and school volunteers who share a common enthusiasm for music and who want to learn how to best prepare students for a Concerts for Kids program. It is designed for those who want to visit classrooms in advance of the concerts, or for teachers who wish to make presentations at their own school.
The Workshop consists of:
-
a meeting with the conductor, who provides insight into the concert program,
-
a teacher’s guide designed to be used in the classroom,
-
teaching methods and presentations techniques, and
-
a question-and-answer session.
Workshops are held in the Zellerbach Rehearsal Wing of Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco.
2012 Workshop Dates:
K - Grade 9: Sat, Nov 10, 8:30am - noon
