Since its founding in the 1981, the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra has toured internationally and recorded to wide acclaim. Here are the major milestones in the orchestra’s eventful history.

2004   7th International Tour (Europe)
2001   20th Anniversary Season
    6th International Tour (Russia and Ireland)
    Edwin Outwater appointed 5th Music Director
    5th recording released, a 20th Anniversary compilation
1999   4th recording released, Rachmaninoff Symphony No. 2
1998   5th International Tour (Europe)
1997   3rd recording released (Concertgebouw)
1995   2nd recording released, Mahler Symphony No. 5

1991   1st recording released, a 10th Anniversary compilation

    Alasdair Neale appointed 4th Music Director
1986   Leif Bjaland appointed 3rd Music Director

1982   YO performs Inaugural concert on Sunday, January 17
1981   Youth Orchestra was founded
    Jahja Ling appointed 1st Music Director 

2015 European Tour
